Taylor Janszen Interview: May 2017

For those who don’t know you, can you introduce yourself?

My name is Taylor Janszen, 26 years old, born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. I grew up having a creative mind and always looking to learn something new. Throughout my early years I focused on graphic design and even got accepted into Miami University to continue to develop my graphic skills. After my initial year of super competitive graphic design, I decided to switch my major to Mass Communications (Video Production) with a focus in Interactive Media Studies. I always wanted to be a graphic designer but I also knew that there was so much more to offer in the media industry. This is when I knew I wanted to start something of my own.

Tell us about your company and what you all specialize in.

My company is Janszen Media and we specialize in Search Engine Optimization, Website Design & Development, E-Commerce, Email Marketing, PPC and Paid Social Advertising, Social Media Marketing, Photo & Videography, and of course, Graphic Design. Our goal is to help build business ROI and bottom line by connecting all digital platforms into one.

In terms of skillset, how’d you go about learning all of these skills?

My knowledge and skills within the media industry came from working at a Digital Marketing Agency for 3 years. I learned everything from SEO to Social Media Marketing and was able to put my expertise to the test by pitching fortune 100 and 500 companies digital services. I have experience with hundreds of different industries of multi-location businesses to local home cleaning companies. After joining as the first full-time employee in 2013 with 7 clients, I have helped grow the company to over 55+ monthly clients in just 3 years! Now at my current role, I manage multi-millions across all digital platforms each year.

In terms of client acquisition, what has been your approach?

Most of my clients have been through referrals and networking. The best clients are ones that already trust you through personal or referral experiences. Networking and setting a positive business rapport has helped me to gain additional clients and grow my company.

The best recommendation that I can give is read and stay up on what is trending. Follow social media industry leaders like Gary Vaynerchuk and Neil Patel. There are lots of free webinars that I enjoy and almost always learn something. My favorite sites are socialmediatoday.com, entrepreneur.com and forbes.com. What advice would you give someone who is anxious to start a company on their own?

My advice would be to network and learn as much as you can about your industry. Connect with others that have the same goals and drive and bounce ideas off of one another. Get certifications or necessary validations in your industry and go for it! The longer you wait, the more anxious you will become.
